The Higher Councils
- Praesidium: Legion of Mary in a Parish
- Curia: 2 or more Praesidia in a Diocese
- Comitium: 2 or more Curia in a Diocese
- Regia: 2 or more Comitium
- Senatus: 2 or more Regia
- Concilium: World headquarters (Ireland)
Praesidium
The smallest unit where members hold weekly prayer meetings intermingled with work reports. New works are discussed & assigned. Membership initiates here.
The Standing Instructions
- Punctual and regular attendance.
- Daily recitation of the Catena
- Performance of substantial active legionary work.
- Absolute respect for the confidential nature
Legion of Mary’s Active Membership
This membership is open to all faithfully practicing Catholics. Members attend weekly meetings (about an hour). They engage in prayers and active work. Candidates under 18 years of age are received in the Junior praesidia.
Irrespective of one's level in faith, the Legion of Mary will always take you to a higher level.

Legion Work – Spiritual Work of Mercy (the 3 C’s)
Our works are of the spiritual works of mercy. We meet individuals where they are in their faith journey and help them grow.
Prayers
The Legion of Mary hold a 60-90 mins weekly meeting where they pray and discuss the status of the previously assigned works and a new ones.
Active Works
The active legionaries engage in a weekly 2-hour minimum work of personal contact as Our Lady visited Elizabeth (Lk 1:39-56)
Conversion
Aims to bring people who are not part of the Catholic Church or who have left the Church closer to Jesus Christ.
